Granted Artist-in-Residency by the Foundation Lademoen Kunstnerverksteder (LKV)
Trondheim/Norway | August 2024
The Lademoen Kunstnerverksteder Foundation (LKV) granted Christiane Schwarze and her duo partner Eva Batt a one-month working residency in Trondheim/Norway in August 2024.
In the context of the part of the residency program newly launched by the LKV, which focuses on interdisciplinary projects, the Duo TonSatz will be provided with an apartment among others.
Lademoen Kunstnerverksteder (LKV) is an independent foundation that receives financial support from the Municipality of Trondheim and Sør-Trøndelag County.
The foundation runs a studio collective with workshops and 42 studios for professional artists, the gallery space BABEL and an artist-in-residency program for visual artists and interdisciplinary projects.
The LKV is located in a former school building dating from 1906. Every year around 25 guest artists from all over the world are invited to the LKV for a granted working residency.
The two artists are pleased with this award and the associated opportunity to live one month in Trondheim/Norway to work on their new artwork.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Lademoen Kunstnerverksteder for the artist-residency invitation with the wonderful opportunity to present our working principles based on our Swiss project 2023 with photo artist Korinna Fröhlich.
We would also like to thank all the kind supporters regarding the research work for our new project, which began here in Trondheim and will now continue to develop over a longer period of time:

Artist Scholarship Skulpturenweg Vättis | St. Gallen/Switzerland | June/July 2023
Christiane Schwarze and her duo partner Eva Batt received a coordinated artist grant (literature and composition) from the association Skulpturenweg Vättis. The two artists are invited to Vättis for one month.
The mountain village lies in the Tamina valley at the fork with the Calfeisental - a large natural area on the border of the two cantons of St. Gallen and Graubünden. The UNESCO World Heritage Tectonic Arena Sardona runs right through the Tamina valley. This landscape became a World Heritage Site because of the special phenomena of mountain formation that once piled up the Alps when the continents of Africa and Europe collided.
The mountainous landscape around Piz Sardona allows unique insights into the history of the formation of the alpine mountains and valleys. Along the line that can be seen from far around, the Glarus Thrust, also known as the “magic line”, rocks 250-300 million years old pushed on much younger rocks, some “only” 35-50 million years old. This happened 10-20 million years ago, well below the surface of the earth at that time.
We are very happy about the award of being able to work on our project as Artists-in-Residence in such an artistically inspiring landscape.
We would like to thank the association Skulpturenweg Vättis explicitly for the generous funding!

Workstay at Casa Bick / Fondazione Eduard Bick – Ticino / Switzerland (April/May 2022)
The foundation Eduard Bick facilitates Christiane Schwarze (literature) and her duo partner Eva Batt (composition) a workstay at the Lago Maggiore.
The artist's house, former place of work of the sculptor and painter Eduard Bick, is located at the edge of the contemplative village of Sant'Abbondio with a direct view to the Lago Maggiore.
It offers professional artists from the fields of visual art, performance, dance, literature, theater, music, film, architecture and transdisciplinary forms plenty of space and inspiration.
Just a short walk from the italian border, the dreamy village in Ticino find itself in the company of the Monte Gambaragno and Monte Tamaro mountains on the terraces of the eastern shore of the Lago Maggiore.
We are grateful to be able to work in this artistically inspiring environment – on the trail of writers such as Max Frisch and Hermann Hesse or the Ticino composer Giovanni Giacomo Porro, who preferred to set Italian poetry to music.

We would like to thank the Fondazione Eduard Bick for making our work stay (April/May 2022) in St. Abbondio/Lago Maggiore/Ticino/Switzerland possible. It was also a special pleasure for us to have an comprehensive conversation with Andy Guhl, member of the foundation board.

OUR FIRST STUMPING STONE
Once again, the first published contribution to our call for proposals comes from the pen of the writer Christiane Schwarze, Homberg (Germany).
Her poem “The mission has been accomplished, said the President” makes one struck by the urgency of the images, which she juxtaposes as a painful contrast. But also through the idiosyncratic form of her lyrical text. This time, too, the author convinced us.

Eva Batt's composition Finding peace – somewhere? is a setting of the poem Dark bog by the author Christiane Schwarze. The poem was also printed in the sheet music.
The poem and the first drafts of the present composition for double bass solo were created in 2020 during a coordinated work- and artist-in-residency scholarship, that was granted to the artistic duo from the city of Soltau and the Freundeskreis Künstlerwohnung.
The impressive landscape of the Lüneburg Heath, especially the Pietzmoor which began to arise about 10.000 years ago, was the source of inspiration for the poem and the composition.

Double review in the "Schweizer Musikzeitung"
In the Duet for Violin and Double Bass Wind Played a Shadow Melody by Eva Batt, the highest and lowest string instruments are involved. – Double review from the perspective of a double bass player and a violinist.
Eva Batt's literary setting of the poem Vorausgegangen (Preceded) by the author Christiane Schwarze was reviewed by double bassist Heike Schäfer and violinist Walter Amadeus Ammann in issue 04/2021.
"Wind Played a Shadow Melody" is inspired by the poem "Vorausgegangen" by the lyricist Christiane Schwarze. It is thus a work that combines the arts of music and poetry. (...) Syncopating, searching, dialoguing with pauses or duetting, changing from arco to pizzicato, melodies emerge with melancholically cuddling semitones, ending in a consoling A minor. (...) "Wind Played a Shadow Melody" is a source of inspiration and an example of transdisciplinary art - it opens up new spaces of sound and words for musicians and listeners. (...)"

Audio-CD included in the Swiss National Sound Archive | Lugano
The Swiss National Sound Archive (the sound archive of Switzerland based in Lugano) has included and archived the Audio CD The Silence of the Shadows – Mosaic of a Search | Poetry & Music as a so-called "sounding cultural asset".
Since Switzerland has no law on the deposit of mandatory copies at national level, as is the case in Germany, and furthermore we are not Swiss artists, it is something special that the Swiss National Sound Archive has decided to include our audio CD in their inventory. The CD is now researchable and excerpts are available for "preview".
The associated appreciation that our audio CD is relevant to the history and culture of Switzerland is certainly also related to the fact that our project, among other things, was funded by the canton of Valais and “artbellwald.ch”.

We would like to thank the board of the foundation for the congratulations on the publication of our book and the accompanying audio CD!
The Foundation Lyrik Kabinett maintains Europe's second largest library specializing in poetry, with currently about 60.000 media: German-language and international poetry, including numerous high-quality artist's books, audio and video media.
On an international level, the Lyrik Kabinett corresponds to the poetry centres in other countries, such as the French Maisons de la Poésie or the English London Poetry Library.
Poetry book, CD and Sheet music will be included in the holdings of the library of the Foundation Lyrik Kabinett. This means that all the three works will also be researchable via the Bavarian Union Catalogue and the OPAC of the University of Munich.
Poetry book, CD and Sheet music –

This special library is the only one in Germany devoted exclusively to the collection of modern poetry (from the 20th century onwards) and functions as an "archive of contemporary poetry".
The Leipzig Poetry Library is represented by such renowned poets as Büchner Prize winner Volker Braun, Durs Grünbein, Friederike Mayröcker and Nobel Prize winner Günter Grass.
